Henna – Blood of Christ
Hyssop – Application of the Blood of Christ
Henna comes from the word, kaphar, meaning to cover, make atonement, cleanse, dis-annul, forgive, be merciful, pardon, and to reconcile. Figuratively, it means a redemption price. Henna was used in biblical days for dyeing and it was red in color. It is with little difficulty that we see the representation of the blood of Christ.
Our portion in this anointing is in everything that has been purchased by His blood. It covers every sin, cleanses all guilt and shame, removes the veil and restores our ability to have intimacy with the Father. These are but a few of the things the blood of Christ has done for us. The virtue of His blood is truly measureless!
Hyssop is first mentioned in the scriptures in Exodus 12:22. On the night of the first Passover, it was used to apply the blood of the lamb to the doorposts and lintels. It was also used by the priests to sprinkle the blood of the sacrifice in the Tabernacle of Moses. King David was familiar with the frequent use of hyssop in the ceremonial law and viewed it as a means by which the virtue of the sacrificial animal was transferred to the sinner. ( Ps 51:7 )
